HONEY FROM BERLIN NEUKÖLLN

A personal experience I like to share with you - recently via the blog of the Akademie des Genusses www.contemporaryfoodlab.com  I learned more about one of the three Berlin professional beekeepers in deepest Neukölln - Malte Eismann. Formerly he was a successful, independent programmer. He followed his dream and is now 7 days a week committed to his lively creatures. We tasted honey directly from the comb which surely is an extraordinary experience. Malte is an absolute expert in what and how he does it and also produces wax, propolis and honey liqueur. All his products are available through www.imker-bio.de

THE ONEThe One …. An abandoned theatre is the location for an underground party. A young guest loses itself in the unusual aura of the place. In his mind the former theater director is bringing back glitz and glamor of old times and past and present are merging. While everything dissolves around him, he knows what he is looking for: the one person who can give him support - The One! Jean Paul Gaultier designed the over 500 extravagant costumes. The dimensions are enormous: more than 100 artists on the largest theater stage in the world, a production budget of more than eleven million euros, the most elaborate show in Europe. www.palast.berlin.de

After a brilliant show in the Friedrichstadtpalast we look forward to the 12th Festival of Lights. From 7. to 16.10.2016 Berlins most beautiful buildings are particularly illuminated again by projections from national and international artists. www.festival-of-lights.de

Another visual delight will be the exhibition venues of the European Month of Photography - after Athens, Budapest, Paris and Vienna exciting works by international artists are now shown throughout Berlin. www.emop-berlin.eu

Concert highlights in October are for example at the Mercedes Benz Arena The Cure on 18.10.2016 & Zucchero on 28.10.2016, at the Tempodrom Berlin is looking forward welcoming Paul Simon on the 20th and Bonnie Tyler on the 31st. If you are lucky you can find Tickets on www.eventim.de

Another personal highlight is the rebirth of Yello live at the Kraftwerk from 28. to 30.10.2016. Dieter Meier has mainly concentrated al his energy on his restaurants and his excellent wine Puro from Argentina – but now he is finally back on stage.

If you are more a friend of classical music, we should mention the premieres of the Staatsoper Berlin at the Schiller Theater under the direction of Maestro Daniel Barenboim. You have the choice between Fidelio / Beethoven of legendary Harry Copper on 03.10.2016 and Elektra / Ostrich where Waltraut Mayer again shines as a star guest on the 23.10.2016.

Balettenthusiasten will enjoy the premiere of The Nutcracker on 07.10.2016 at the Deutsche Oper. Nacho Duato will show once again in his new choreography his genius and sense of new interpretations. On various dates you can also enjoy my favorite ballet Giselle, performed in a beautiful classic version, with music by Adolphe Adam at the Schiller Theater.

Contribute to the roof of the new Staatsoper Unter den Linden and enjoy listening to great opera divas on 30.10.2016 at the Philharmonie: a benefit concert of the Staatskapelle under the direction of Daniel Barenboim with guest star Cecilia Bartoli - focus will be on Mozart.

Now that the days are becoming colder, I would like to come back to Dieter Meier of Yello and mention again his wine line PURO from the heart of Mendoza/ Argentina. Good for a glass to reflect on all experienced in Berlin - at the hotel or at home - alone or in company.

Cheers - Your Hagen Hoppenstedt
